Motor Insurance Database (MID)

Welcome to the new Motor Insurance Database (MID) section on e-broking.

This section has been set up to cover all aspects of MID and answer any queries or questions you might have regarding the new requirements that Norwich Union have set out for all brokers.

Under the EU 4th Motor Insurance Directive, the UK Government passed the Motor Vehicles (Compulsory Insurance) (Information Centre & Compensation Body) Regulations 2003.

These regulations placed obligations on both insurers and policyholders in relation to keeping and supplying vehicle and policy information to the MID.

For all Motor Products where Norwich Union hold full vehicle details, we are required by law to submit all vehicle insurance details to the Motor Insurance Database (MID) within 14 days of the effective date.

The MID plays an important part in addressing the growing problem of uninsured driving in the UK, currently there are around 1 in 20 drivers on the road that are uninsured costing the industry around £550million per year.

In order to meet the MID regulations we require all intermediaries to submit policy information to us ideally within 24 hours, but no later than 5 calendar days after the effective date of any renewal, new business, or policy change*. View our broker requirements for MID.

* Vehicle details in respect of Motor Trade / Unspecified Vehicle Fleets and MID must be made direct to the MID by the policyholder or their authorised representative.
