Cargo

Cargo is carried by many modes of transport, usually by more than one in any one voyage. The mode of contract will include sendings by air, sea, water or road. Everything we see around us, from raw materials to finished products, foodstuffs, minerals, steel, rubber will at some time have been cargo.

Cargo is often forgotten or ignored which means that the cargo owner assumes the risk. Another reason that it is not arranged is that the importer or the exporters believe that the cargo carrier's contractual conditions will compensate them for any loss or damage. Cargo insurance is normally arranged by a supplier or buyer overseas or placed by a freight forwarder on behalf of the exporter.

Target Business

Any company that imports, or exports, goods is a potential client. We are able to provide cover for many types of cargo. Each type of cargo has different underwriting considerations and each case submitted to us will be underwritten individually.

To give you an idea of companies that may require cargo insurance, you should look out for the following:

  • Does the company name have importers or exporters in their name
  • Does the word international or European appear in their name
  • Does the company business card have 00 44 for international calls
  • Does the company name indicate an association with an overseas country

Please speak to your usual Marine contact for further details.
