Taking the headache out of medical histories

Add your clients' medical conditions online and receive immediate underwriting decisions on the majority of our stand-alone travel policies.

When?
Please note that due to unforeseen circumstances the launch of integrated medical screening has moved from 26 November to 10 December 2007. From 10 December 2007, use e-services for your travel business and you'll be able to search and add your customers' medical conditions from thousands held on our database.

In most cases, we'll be able to give you an instant underwriting decision on whether or not we can cover the condition.

Why?
Today, one in three of our travel policies are issued to people with medical conditions.

With a growing ageing population and a continual increase in both the number and cost of medical-related claims, it's essential that these risks are underwritten robustly.

To do this, we'll now ask questions specifically related to each condition and consider all the relevant risk factors (such as the number of medical conditions a traveller has, their age, trip destination and duration).

This will help us provide appropriate and consistent underwriting decisions, which are focused on the risk in front of us.

How it works
Being able to add and underwrite medical conditions online means it'll be easier to do travel business through e-services.

This new medical screening process applies for our stand-alone travel product, but not for the travel add-on to our home insurance policies yet.

Here's how it works: Clients will now need to be with you to give answers as each new question asked will depend on the previous answer given.

The paper medical fact-finding form won't need to be used anymore as answers will be input directly onto e-services either by yourself or via our travel team.

Where an underwriting decision has already been made, we'll honour guaranteed quotes so long as the material facts haven't changed.
